What is Reiki

The laying of hands on the human body is a familiar practice. Human touch offers warmth and a sense of care and love. Touch deprivation can lead to illness, highlighting the importance of touch in healing therapies.

Healing involves addressing the root cause of illness, not just alleviating symptoms. It brings alignment with one’s Higher Self. Reiki, a hands-on healing technique, combines two Japanese words: Rei and Ki.

REI = The Higher Source guiding the Universe, known as God or by other names across cultures.

KI = The life force energy nourishing all living things, equivalent to Chi, Prana, Baraka, Orenda, and other forms. Obstructions in the flow of Ki can lead to illness.

Who is the Reiki addressed to?

Reiki ability is transferred via attunements, reconnecting us to a latent part of ourselves. Anyone can learn Reiki, and attunements establish a direct link to universal energy. Post-attunement, healing energy flows from student to recipient with a simple touch.

How reiki helps

The person who is a Reiki healer receives an attunement, which opens the energy channels of the body and clears any obstructions in the flow of Ki. The attunement also connects the healer to the source of universal energy. The connection to the source and the ability to channel universal energy is further enhanced with additional attunements. To connect with the Reiki energy, the person places their hands upon themself or on others, and the energy will flow through them automatically.

Since Reiki is guided by a higher intelligence, the mind and experience of the practitioner does not affect the Reiki energy. The mind of the client does not affect the healing energy, whether or not they believe in Reiki. The energy knows where to go and what to do.

The person giving Reiki experiences an increase in Ki. They often feel energised and so can perform several healing sessions in succession. The energies of the practitioner are never depleted, as the Reiki energy is channelled. Reiki always provides healing, is always positive and everybody benefits from its use.

Reiki will heal the cause of a problem on whatever level it may exist – mind, body or spirit, as the Ki in the body can also be affected by thoughts and feelings. Negative thoughts and feelings are the main cause of restrictions to the flow of Ki. This is supported by the fact that the mind is responsible for many illnesses in the western world.

Reiki can work directly with the unconscious mind that contains these thoughts and feelings, breaking them up and washing them away. The Ki is then allowed to flow freely, thus rebalancing the function of the physical body and restoring the healthy condition.

If you think of your body as a house full of lights, the attunement process is similar to the act of turning on the electricity. The electrical switches connecting to the lights represent the chakras, or energy centres, in the body. The chakras link our physical bodies to our higher spiritual selves. These switches require repairing and need to be tested, to ensure that there are no blockages to the flow of electricity. In the same way, the chakras in our body need to be balanced for the Ki to flow correctly. Once the switches (chakras) are cleared of obstructions the electricity itself (Reiki Energy) is able to flow freely and make your house (body) light up!

After being attuned, each individual will be in contact with, and receive assistance from Reiki spirit guides. Some of these guides will remain for a long time (even for life) while others may be with you only for a short period. In a healing session, as soon as the energy begins to flow, your guides will appear and will assist, if required.

Reiki guides may be saints, ascended masters, angels and archangels, friends and family, animal spirits or beings from other planets and dimensions.

What Does Reiki Mean?

Reiki ability is transferred via attunements, reconnecting us to a latent part of ourselves. Anyone can learn Reiki; no prior experience is needed. Attunement opens the heart and crown chakras, linking the student to universal Reiki energy. Post-attunement, healing energy flows from student to recipient with a touch.

Here is what Reiki is

The Reiki is one of the most beautiful gifts that one can receive and share with others.

Reiki is universal love, compassion, harmony, and balance; leading to a sense of restored integrity, a path of joy and happiness. While Reiki originated in the East (founded by the Japanese Mikao Usui, 1865-1926), it is widely used in the West today, often as a complementary medicine technique. Medical centers and hospitals, especially in Japan, the USA, and the UK, study and employ it, and finally, also in Italy.

Reiki is also a path of spiritual exploration but, as it does not require adherence to a creed, it cannot be considered a religion. To become practitioners and masters, initiations, also called “activations,” must be received, and one must lead an integral lifestyle and humbly dedicate oneself to others’ health. It is good practice for students to practice Reiki. One begins by practicing Reiki on the mental body before moving on to the physical body. It is good to give Reiki to oneself, to what one eats, to the water one drinks, to pets, to houseplants, to the room where one sleeps, and to one’s home. One will be happily surprised by the vibrant energy they are surrounded by.

The application of Reiki involves touching energy points (chakras, from the Sanskrit “energy wheels”) to release stagnant energies that harm the body. Other parts of the body can also be touched, but treatment can occur, even without physical contact, through distance energy transmission. The Reiki energy that the therapist channels into the patient is a purifying energy that removes all the energy the body no longer needs and restores the body’s natural balance. Reiki is relaxing, helps with stress, and other discomforts caused by modern life.
